Gay marriage in California

So a bunch of Conservative California Supreme Court judges decided that people had to be treated equal under the law. What's wrong with our elected officials doing their jobs? These judges were all elected with more than 70 percent of the vote with the exception of 1, that only got a paltry 68 percent of the vote. In the year 2000 Californians polled, were against gay marriage by a margin of 55 to 38 percent. Last year that gap closed to 48 percent against to 46 percent for gay marriage. http://origin.mercurynews.com/ethicspolicy/ci_9279652
It is my belief that if people don't want to marry someone of the same sex, they shouldn't have to. It's always the same argument, "what will I tell my children?" How about the truth! I think Roy Zimmerman said it best in one of his songs called Defenders of Marriage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bja2ttzGOFM It's about people defending marriage from people who want to get married. It is my belief that the biggest problems with marriage these days are divorce and the economy. All you right to life-er, Conservative, anti gay, pro war thinking people should consider this, seldom do gay couples have abortions. They do adopt though. I know I'm going to get some reaction from this post, especially from certain religious persons. I just ask, what did Jesus say about gays or gay marriage? I'm not looking for some quote in the old testament or something Paul said, I want red letter Jesus quotes from you people that, based on your religion, don't want gays to have this right.

Does this decission force churches to wed gay couples?

pls8395, the decission doesn't force churches to wed gay couples. That's why it is so absurd that so many are against it.
It takes no ones rights away. The only problem I forsee is that many churches seem to think they own the word marriage and that all marriages are sacred. How can they take ownership of something they don't own? The first christian church, the Catholic Church, may be able to claim ownership of the sacrament of marriage as they have invented the christian version of marriage. Catholic's don't recognize marriages by any other faith. Non Catholic marriages and Civil Unions are the same under the Catholic church, they are not recognized. This whole thing has to do with equal protection under the law not some sacred ceremony. Laws should not give marriages different rights than Civil Unions.
