Why We Should Not Allow Gay Marriage

This is a guest blog.

"Why we should not allow Gay Marriage..."by: Sarah Reid

Yes... I said it...I think the only reason we should not allow gay marriage is if we don't allow straight marriage either. The ONLY argument against gay marriage is a religious one. So if we follow the logic that religion and government do NOT belong together than we should remove the concept of marriage completely from the governmental and legal arena and ONLY ALLOW CIVIL UNIONS FOR ALL.

Let the religious institutions have marriage... Like baptism and bar mitzvah and all of that and in the realm of laws and government only allow civil unions or domestic partnerships FOR EVERYONE but it has to be the same for ALL long term committed relationships. The religious argument is moot anyway...VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8!!!

Other false arguments against gay marriage:Marriage is a tool for procreation:If this is the case than there should be a rule against infertile people getting married or people who do not want children getting married and if a Couple DOES NOT have children within a set amount of time their marriage should be considered void legally. SECONDLY all people who procreate outside of

marriage should HAVE to be married by the child's first birthday (or some other arbitrary time limit) by law in order to fulfill the "marriage is procreation" ideal.

If we allow gay marriage then why not allow child molestation:First off, the highest percentage of folks who molest and rape children(roughly 98%) are not only male but self- defined as straight. The rest are dominated by straight females. So if you look at the fact that roughly10% of the population is gay than you would think that 10% of molestation would be by gays but this is simply NOT THE CASE. Less than .08% of child molestation cases are done by gay men or women. (hence why I tell my folks I would rather have a gay man as a boy scout leader or babysitter than an adamantly straight guy.)Secondly, child molestation is a crime. A child CAN NOT CONSENT to sexual acts. On a legal/Money level, someone under the age of 18 CAN NOT SIGN A LEGAL CONTRACT. That is vastly different than two adults making a contractor commitment to one another.

McCain Phones It In

This is from Thinkprogress.org

McCain: ‘It’s not my style to simply phone it in.’
At a rally in Ohio today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) touted his decision to come back to Washington last week to work on the financial bailout:
Remarkably, some people have criticized my decision to put my country first, but I’ll never be a president who sits on the sidelines when this country faces a crisis. I’ll never do that. I know that many of you have noticed it’s not my style to simply phone it in. I’m a Teddy Roosevelt Republican. I believe our leaders belong in the arena — in the arena — when your country faces a challenge. Not on the road in a campaign. I’ve never been afraid of stepping in to solve problems for the American people and I’m not going to stop now.

However, phoning it in is exactly what McCain did do. Explaining why McCain never went to Capitol Hill on Friday or Saturday after rushing back to Washington after the debate, top aide Mark Salter explained that McCain “can effectively do what he needs to do by phone.”

China banks told to halt lending to US banks-SCMP

This is from Reuters News and I found it at prison planet.com

REUTERSThursday, September 25, 2008
BEIJING, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Chinese regulators have told domestic banks to stop interbank lending to U.S. financial institutions to prevent possible losses during the financial crisis, the South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.
The Hong Kong newspaper cited unidentified industry sources as saying the instruction from the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) applied to interbank lending of all currencies to U.S. banks but not to banks from other countries.
"The decree appears to be Beijing’s first attempt to erect defences against the deepening U.S. financial meltdown after the mainland’s major lenders reported billions of U.S. dollars in exposure to the credit crisis," the SCMP said.

Bloggers Picnic

No photos. Not that there weren't any, it's just that I don't do photo shop and can't remove the faces as easily as some. I kept my sunglasses on.

I did want to say that I had a great time on Sunday meeting all of the bloggers that showed up in Rio Dell for the picnic. There was good food and drink. Nobody got into a fight. The weather was as good as it gets and it was fun to put faces on the many people that I have argued and agreed with over the past few months. Until next year, Go Bloggers!

Mountain Lion Causes Brush Fire on Table Bluff

9-17-08

It all started because of a mountain lion. One was spotted on the reservation on Table Bluff here in Humboldt County. The locals decided to cut the brush so the mountain lion wouldn't be able to hide there. Just after 3pm today, a mower sparked the dry brush and soon there was a 3 acre brush fire. Cal Fire was first on the scene backed up by Loleta Fire Department and a Humboldt District fire crew. A helicopter was overhead but it didn't drop any water and no water bucket was visible.

Radio personality Rollin Trehearne, 92.3 and 98.3 fm morning man lives near where the fire broke out and helped man a fire hose to keep the fire contained between roads. The fire did jump a gravel road but the wind blowing from the south, blew the fire away from most of the houses toward a ranch. A road between the ranch and the fire helped to serve as a fire break and the fire was contained by about 4pm. The mop up of hot spots was still going on at 6pm. No one was injured and no homes were damaged.

The Saudi 9/11 Connection

Lest you think that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11, read this from a second look at the Saudis.com

Predictably, in virtually every major terrorist attack against the United States over the last twelve years, the men actually pulling the trigger at the end of the day have been Saudi Arabian. These include:
The Saudi National Guard bombing in November 1995, which killed five Americans. All four of the men convicted and executed for the bombing were Saudis.
The Khobar Towers bombing in June 1996, which killed 19 Americans. Of the 14 men indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice for that bombing, 13 were Saudi Arabian, including all five of the men who drove and detonated the truck bomb on the day of the attack.
The Nairobi embassy bombing in August 1998, which killed 12 Americans. Both of the men who drove and detonated the truck bomb were Saudis.
The USS Cole bombing in October 2000, which killed 17 Americans. According to both the Prime Minister of Yemen and a well-known former Al Qaeda operative, both of the men who drove and detonated the explosives-laden boat used in that attack were Saudis.
The Riyadh residential compound bombings in May 2003, which killed nine Americans. All nine of the suicide bombers killed in the attacks were Saudis.
The Mosul mess tent bombing in December 2004, which killed 18 Americans. The lone suicide bomber responsible was identified in numerous press reports as a foreign insurgent from Saudi Arabia.

Seventh Anniversary of the Second Worst Terrorist Attack on the U.S. Mainland

On September 11th, 2001, someone attacked the United States in the second worst terrorist attack on the U.S. mainland. Some 3,000 people died that day during the attacks that were said to be caused by 19 hijackers armed with box cutters. Without firing a shot, they were able to overcome all of our defenses. They boarded planes and even though none of their names appeared on any of the original flight manifests, they were allowed to board 4 commercial jet flights and commander them. Two planes hit the World Trade Center buildings 1 and 2. One plane hit the Pentagon and faced no resistance in doing so. The other plane broke up over Pennsylvania and crashed in a corn field, killing all on board.

Three sky scrapers in New York fell at free fall speeds that day, two of them after they were hit by the planes. World Trade Center building 7, which was not hit by a plane fell at near free fall speed hours after the original attack. All three buildings had molten steel in their basements for weeks after the attacks. This has never been fully explained by the 9/11 Commission.

The 9/11 Commission was not even commissioned until 441 days after the crime.

There are a lot of questions that remain to this day about the events of 9/11. I am in favor of a new independent investigation of the events that unfolded that day.

I say it was the second worst terrorist attack on the U.S. mainland because

the initial attack killed about 3,000 Americans. In 1812, the British attacked the U.S. mainland, killed 20 thousand Americans and burned down the White House. Even if you include the U.S. Military losses in Iraq and Afghanistan, the War of 1812 would seem to be the worst attack on the U.S. mainland in the sheer numbers of deaths.

It is sad that so much disinformation has become of this. Bush said he is intercepting our phone calls because of 9/11, even though the CEO of Quest Communications, Joe Nacchio said that the Bush Administration had asked his telecommunications company to agree to spying as early as February of 2001, seven months before the attacks. He refused and was later convicted of insider trading by a grand jury. The Patriot Act, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the loss of Habious Corpus, holding suspects indefinitely without charges and the illegal war in Iraq are just some of the fruits of 9/11. Bin Laden has what he wanted, U.S. troops out of Saudi Arabia, oil over 100 dollars a barrel, the near bankrupting of the United States of America and a loss many of our freedoms.

Sometimes I wish that I didn't know the things I know. I would be more able to honor the day, focusing on those innocent people that lost their lives that day. Instead, I see a coming police state, 10's of thousands of dead Iraqi citizens and massive debt that our grandchildren will be born into. I do have the most respect for the firefighters and rescue personnel that put their lives on the line that day to help others, that's the America I want to remember. Not the lies, deceit and destruction that followed the attacks of 9/11/2001. It may have been the second worst terrorist attack on the U.S. mainland but it's impacts will last longer than most of us.

Arizona Elections Entegrity Advocate Arrested While Observing Hand Count

From The Brad Blog: http://www.bradblog.com/

Pima County (Tucson), Arizona Election Integrity advocate and expert John Brakey was arrested last night while performing his job as an election supervisor, on behalf of both the Democratic and Libertarian parties, during a post-election hand-count audit of ballots.
Brakey becomes the latest in a growing string of EI advocates to be arrested and/or barred from observing (Brakey was lucky enough to merit both "honors" apparently) while attempting to assure accuracy, fairness, and transparency in voting and in the reporting of election results on behalf of citizens.
The problem erupted after Brakey had noticed a number of ballot bags being counted in the post-election audit were missing their proper security seals. He began to ask questions about those bags, which eventually led to his arrest at the demand of Pima County's Brad "Election Director Gone Wild" Nelson, a man with whom Brakey has had a number of unfortunate (for Nelson) run-ins over the years.
After news of his arrest, "the county elections building was swarming with television news crews," according to a report by Election Defense Alliance (EDA), of which Brakey is a member. Indeed, KGUN's video report on the incident is very good, as the Tucson media --- given Brakey's success in lawsuits and legislation over the years on behalf of voters --- has come to see him as a reliable source on such matters...

North Coast Veterans Stand Down

For three brief days local volunteers, community leaders and families will be providing the respect, honor and empowerment for our veterans and their families. Volunteers from all over the north coast will gather at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, veterans and civilians alike, to provide services that has changed the lives of veterans at previous North Coast Stand-downs.
Our mission is to support all veterans. To this end we provide free food, earned benefit information, lodging, haircuts, transportation, referral services and supplies. Perhaps even more important, you will be among a group of people who appreciate what you have done for your country. The camaraderie that results is just another positive reason to be here. It is our hope that we can provide them with whatever it takes to make their lives easier, and the lives of your spouses and children. Widows of veterans will find counselors available to help them sort through the benefits they are entitled to.
They have served our country and now it's time for it to come through for them. There's a lot of reasons why we have these stand downs, and they all amount to the same overall goal; to reach out to all veterans and to welcome them home.
This stand down is for them. From a grateful community. A special "Welcome Home" programs to our newest generation of veterans is planned for October 4th, at noon. Additional volunteers are needed, and civic groups and local businesses are encouraged to sponsor the meals being served to over 300 veterans and their families. For information on a this community service program: planned for October 3rd through the 5th, 2008, either attending and/or supporting our communities efforts, please contact our Director, Kim Hall 707) 826-6191 or director@northcoaststanddown.org or visit our website http://www.northcoaststanddown.org/.
